[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The theme is a concept that creates an inspirational, intellectual and philosophical framework. It is the foundation and the seed for the content. The theme is drawing a line, running through every aspect of the event, connecting all the elements, making a comprehensive and complete creation. The spirit of the theme encompasses this creation and holds in it the connection and the essence of all participants. The theme guides and inspires the art in the event.

Last year’s theme, “Abracadabra”, gave a deep philosophical meaning to Midburn. It carried an important message and inspired varied artistic directions. The word could be interpreted in different ways, but the basic meaning had a common understanding. The spirit of Abracadabra could be sensed months before the event and during the event itself. It was present everywhere, in every experience and yet allowed full freedom to each and every one to take it to the place that felt right for them.

So, what will be our theme for 2017?

The process started with a call out to the Midburn community. In 5 days we got 47 proposals. After clearing some duplicates we presented 40 proposals. After a short voting process we stayed with the final 3!

[/vc_column_text][vc_accordion][vc_accordion_tab title=”Lucid dream”][vc_column_text]Alice: oh, hatter. I fear i may never see you again

Hatter: My dear Alice, in the gardens of memory, in the palace of dreams, that is where you and i will meet.

Alice: But a dream is not reality.

Hatter: Who’s to say which is which?

A lucid dream, also known as dreaming aware, is a state in which the dreamer can control his dreamscape, that is perceived as real.

Imagine the ability to travel through time, talk to animals, glide over mountains and dive into oceans. No limits or limitations, all dreams can come true, all fantasies come to live. The dreamscape, where we play with our subconscious and set the un-rules, as crazy as they may be. This space welcomes any person and creature, real or imagined (radical inclusion) and will allow us to express ourselves without fears or limitations (radical self expression). Dream of a journey in a world where everything is possible, where can’t tell if it’s a realistic dream or a dreamy reality.

A lucid dream is an invitation to talk a walk in the subconscious, beyond time and space.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Let There Be Light”][vc_column_text]First explanation:

We are here to make a difference, to show other ways are possible, to show something good to the world. We create a new world from the existing one. We are trying to create a new reality from within the darkness the world is in right now, a reality that will sweep many good people, shine a big light and create a primal explosion in Israel and the world while fulfilling our destiny and natural right to light the road for others, right here, right now – in community events and in our personal lives.

We are the markers that light the way for everyone else, creating a new reality with our bare hands, testifying and firmly reminding those who forgot or lost hope, that light is to always triumph darkness.

We burn and make light not just for the sake of burning, but to shine light afar and encouraging extinguished souls.

Today’s world can be dark, very dark. We want to keep shining light, giving hope, all this in a commanding manner, testifying to immediacy and radical self reliance, as only us can spread the light.

Second explanation:

Midburn is a movement that operates inspiration over the great community that it is built of and beyond that. You can see this inspiration as a sort of light, flashlight, torch that shines the way to those who work the craft, to the community members and those around it. In the reality of the state of Israel today, there is a polarity and the conversation is becoming cynical, everyone who is in the conversation, unrelated to the correctness or way of operating, feels in the dark. Midburn as a movement, with the 10 principles which create an example for leading a better life, lights the way and the environment, allowing the creation of a conversation and understanding while implementing the principles of Inclusion, Participation, Immediacy, Gifting and more.

Sense, the art works, camps and costumes created in Midburn make use of light in various forms whether it is electronic light or fire.

Combining the spiritual explanation, in lighting the way and giving the hope to create a tolerant society where the conversation is gentle and fertile, along with the physical creation of light during the event relates to the first verse in the holy writings which have to do with creation – Let there be light!

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Why this theme is the most suiting for Midburn 2017?

  1. We as a community want to spread the light in the physical level as well as in the metaphorical level, for the creation of the new-old world we are trying to make.
  2. Assuming the explanation above is accepted with understanding that the biggest issue with the community today is the form of conversations in it, applying the theme which comes to creare a different kind of conversation is the right thing to do in my mind.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Chaos”][vc_column_text]Chaos – the source of everything there is, where the first gods and the first division of the earth came from, the first abyss which everything began in. (Greek mythology)

The chaos was the first shapeless material made out of a mixture of the 4 basic elements of the world: Earth, Air, Water and Fire.

According to the Greek creation story brought in the Theogony by Hesiod, The following entities were created:

Gaya – Representation of the Earth

Nyx – Representation of the night

Eros – Representation of sexual desire and attraction

Tartarus – Representation of the underworld and death

Erebos – Representation of the deep darkness

Uranus – Representation of the sky

The Chaos is a state of constant struggles between contrasts, Heat fights cold, moisture wars with dryness, the hard battles the soft and heavies do not comply with the lights”.

The chaos ends when a god ended the strife in the cosmos and divided the elements by their weight.

Chaos theory is a branch of mathematics that describes many systems which, even when all the rules that control these systems are known, it is not possible to predict their development in a large scale. Even simple systems have conditions where the behaviour is not possible to predict in an effective way, to do that you must know the preliminary conditions in an infinite precision – which is not possible. The phenomenon is known as the “Butterfly effect”.

The affinity and connection to Midburn according to the 10 principals comes from – Radical inclusion – all the voices, various elements and contrasts together.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Why this theme is the most suiting for Midburn 2017?

The repeating sentence – Midburn is the most organized chaos there is.

This is the place for all the voices, contrasts, creatures and elements working together in an orderly fashion as magic that it is impossible to predict it’s end.
